Why choose welded or bolted waterproof connectors?

With the diversification of social needs, various connectors have emerged. Different device manufacturers can choose different connectors based on different usage forms. Choosing the correct connector, perhaps the most important thing is the connection method of the connector. After all, the wiring method may imply a difference between reliability and failure.

01. Differences in wiring methods

There are several common wiring methods for waterproof connectors: welded, crimped, or bolted., Welding and bolt connection are commonly used wiring methods. So in the process of selecting waterproof connectors, is it better to weld or bolt them? I will provide you with a detailed analysis of the differences between these two methods


Firstly, we need to understand it conceptually. Welding, also known as fusion welding, is a method of heating and heating High temperature or high pressure connection of metal or other thermoplastic materials, such as plastic manufacturing processes and technologies. As the name suggests, bolts connect connectors through bolts. Bolted connections are divided into ordinary bolted connections and high-strength bolted connections. It is suitable for structures that require disassembly and temporary connections. But in terms of performance stability, welding has the following advantages.

2. Components of any shape can be directly connected, generally without the need for auxiliary components. The connection structure is simple, the transmission route is short, and the application range is wide.

3. The welded connection has good air and water tightness, high structural stiffness, and good overall structural integrity.

02. Under what circumstances is the welding type chosen

Imagine if you use a bolted waterproof connector on the device for a long period of time, and the connector becomes loose and opens, ultimately damaging the machine in an uncontrolled manner. In this case, using welded connectors can prevent malfunctions.

Please note that the wires are initially connected to the main body using bolted connectors. Initially, this would be a very convenient way to connect. But over time, due to the fact that the equipment connection is not stationary, it may detach and oxidize, leading to poor contact.

If the connector vibrates or moves, mechanical failure of the bolts may also occur. At this point, the correct thing is welding, as the welding connection can basically seal the two metals together, greatly reducing the possibility of failure.

03. Precautions for selecting wiring

Firstly, consider the environment. If the climate control is good and there is little or no chance of frequent movement, then bolted connectors will be very effective as long as suitable tools are used for assembly. In worse environments, welded connectors should be used to provide more reliable connections.

Other considerations. The power connector usually adopts bolt wiring method, because the bolt needs to be aligned when assembled on the board, which increases the manufacturing workload and requires high manufacturing accuracy. Therefore, welding waterproof connectors should be chosen at this time.
